PAINTED ROBES

PAINTED ROBES

20" x 24" oil on canvas

Plains warriors would often paint their war exploits on buffalo robes. The rendering style changed dramatically after the Indians saw the more accurate art of White artists such as George Catlin and Karl Bodmer. During the time of the Great Indian Wars of the 1860's and 70's the painting style had become so refined that details of the engagement and equipment were easily distinguished and identifiable. © Steven Lang OPAM
